Available HiWi-jobs

The department of mathematics is searching for students that supervise exercise groups supplementing mathematical lectures in every semester.

What you do?

The primary task is to supervise a weekly exercise session (duration 90 minutes) during the lecture period. To prepare these exercises and give you further instructions you have to attend to weekly preliminary meetings with the lecturers and their assistants. Moreover, you have to provide office hours to the students of the course and correct and grade their homework. To prepare you for these tasks we offer an obligatory training course ("Übungsleiterschulung"—for details consult the FAQ-page).

What are the benefits?

  • A paid job fitting ideally to your studies,
  • Get a better understanding of mathematics (learning through teaching),
  • Improve your communication skills,
  • Attend a course training to prepare yourself for the job as exercise group supervisor,
  • Receive credit points for your master studies (in mathematics).

Candidates must possess the following qualifications:

  • Be enthusiastic about mathematics and teaching mathematics,
  • Study for at least one and a half years (or 3 terms, resp.),
  • Be able to document the required mathematical knowledge by having passed similar exams (transcript of records),
  • Capability to explain mathematics in the course language.

Where can I get further information?

See our FAQ-page for answers to frequently asked questions.
