Abstract: In this talk numerical methods are discussed for solving hyperbolic differential equations with stiff relaxation terms. It will be seen that explicit time-step methods are more suited for hyperbolic equations with large solution gradients than implicit methods. On the other hand, stiff terms should be treated explicitly. Implicit and explicit methods can be combined in the so-called IMEX methods. The question is: do we then combine the advantages of the methods or their disadvantages?

Abstract:
