Classical mechanics on a (locally) symmetric space as configuration space can be described as Hamiltonian dynamical system on the cotangent bundle of the (locally) symmetric space. For the square of the length of the cotangent vectors as Hamiltonian function the resulting dynamical system is the geodesic flow. Its quantization is essentially generated by the Laplacian, whose spectral theory is closely related to the unitary representation theory of the group of isometries of the symmetric space. In this talk I will explain structure and interdependence of these and other invariant dynamical systems on Riemannian (locally) symmetric spaces.
